How to Nail a 1-Concept Brand
Less revisions = less time = less stress + profitable business.
Hi Friends,
Ever wondered why you go through 100 revisions, and 100 concepts before the client is somewhat happy? They go ahead with the 1/100 logo but you’re still convinced they’re not sold.
You spend so many hours trying to please them that you end up working for about $10 an hour and you wonder if it's worth it.
I get it. I've been there. More times than I can count.
What if I told you you can present 1-2 concepts, offer 1 revision and absolutely nail it?
Okay Alex, but how? One word: Strategy. BINGOOO! (In my first year of design I remember seeing this word thrown around and had no idea what it meant, it’s not as complicated as it sounds). The process looks a little like this:
Business name currently in disguise until further notice 😉
Questionnaire (Asking the right questions is also a crucial component)
Internal Brief - This is where you dive deep into their answers, and highlight value-based words that are repeated. E.g. Quality
Combined Pinterest board - The client adds 20-30, in the next process you’ll go back and add more
Moodboard - Pull your 5 brand core values, & 5 brand aesthetic/visual values and add them to the moodboard.
Go back to your Pinterest board, and ensure you have images that relate to all 10 words. (Intentional choices - This my friend is strategy)
Quick Tip: Use Pincase to download all of your images in one go.
Add each of the images next to the value-based words that relate. E.g. Fun, you can see two people in a image who look like they’re having fun
Once you’re complete, you’ll begin to see similarities in colours, styles and type and this is where the intentional design process begins. Nothing is a fluke, every single element of design is there for a reason.
From there, page 2 elaborates on why those particular words were chosen, and how they relate to the brand.
Why do this when you could just design something on trend?
Takes the guessing out of it. Can you read your client’s minds? Doubt it, and if you can, chances are they don’t even know what they want
Your clients get a strategic brand that converts
The brand will be timeless
You can charge more! Without a strategy, they’ll be redoing it every 2 years, so you can charge them more with this process. ‘This brand will last you a minimum of 10 years, invest (Insert high ticket number) and save money and time redoing it’
Less revisions = less time = less stress + profitable business.
