I’m embarrassed to admit…
Fired, living in bali and where the f*ck to start
2 minute read
Im embarrassed to admit.. I’ve been fired from multiple jobs.
At 27 I had had more jobs than I could count on both hands…
Whats inside:
Why the setback
What you need to create a life by your design
Action-taking blueprint for designers (everything you need to start)
[1] Failures fuel success
After attempting to pursue a dance career failing with 2 broken vertebrae, lost dreams and a very hurt ego, I ended up in the corporate rat race, I despised every single morning and counted down the hours and minutes to hometime and the weekend. Working to pay bills and fund my weekends.
Why did I get fired? Mostly because I hated the work so much, my attention to detail was very little and things would be missed. That and because my manager’s beer wasn’t cold enough on a Friday. (I wish I was joking).
I was always so embarrassed to admit this, I felt inadequate and useless, but all of those setbacks led me to create a life on my terms. (I wish there was a way to say this without sounding like a prymaid scheme. I’m not offering you a free white range rover, soz.)
[2] A life by YOUR design
In order to have things you’ve never had, you have to do things you’ve never done. Take action.
What it requires:
Risk, commitment and discipline
Inner work - owning a business is confronting as shit, it’s a fast track to self-development
Openness and acceptance of failure (this one sucks but it’s absolutely crucial)
Passion - people care about how you can help them not how they can help you. With passion you’ll be committed enough to work through the challenges and roadblocks you’ll face (they’re inevitable).
Value-led business will ensure you’re providing something people need and want = sustainable business
Questions that will lead you to the lifestyle you crave. (Inspired by Jai Jowett a successful online entrepreneur)
Am I 100% into this? If not, do I recognise that somebody else who is 100% into it, will likely outperform me?
What is one simple step I can take to start? (it can be as small as setting up a new email)
What personal and professional relationships are no longer serving me that I can let go?
[3] Action-taking blueprint for designers / Where the f*ck to start
I am working on a short, value-led blueprint that gives you simple and actionable steps to START. Test and tried processes and resources to start a design business that provides you with time and location freedom.
Where to start
Systems to use
Templates (Proposals, contracts, design - including brand guides)
People to follow (People I have got huge free value from)
Processes (Including how to get your first clients)
Q&A - It’s overwhelming I get it, but that is exactly why this blueprint has been created. (Remember problem solve and lead with value 😉 )
Everything you need, nothing you don’t. No overwhelm, only actionable steps.
Go and move the needle.
